07-03-2008, 08:41 AM. 260's are stout, remember that 3.5L M30's used these gearboxes. The dogleg 265 (M3/M535) gearbox is stout, but the small dogleg 245 (323i) is not going to handle a lot of power. Most importantly, it's going to depend completely on how you drive the car--people kill drivelines, not horsepower.M50 and M51 are Volvo versions of the getrag 262 and 265 (I think the input shaft lengths are different). Getrag 260 has the bellhousing as an integral part of the transmission and is not suitable for the Volvo M46 bellhousing to Getrag adapter. 262, 262CR and 265 Getrags have a removable bellhousing. 262 is a four speed.First, this does not apply to the 260 trans, only 265s.
