Of course it stalled as far from the road as possible. Brought in a mechanic. Changed the rotter, wasn't getting a spark to the plugs.Remove the screw, install a plastic line on the fitting and start the tractor. Turn the steering wheel to the RH stop position and open the fitting slowly. Let oil bleed out the line until no bubbles are present then tighten the fitting. Be careful as the steering wheel may jump after the bubbles are gone. Recheck the steering.

If stand-by pressure isn't above 1700 psi the priority valve would be blocking pressure oil to 3 pt. Stand-by pressure should be 2250 psi. Recently, after trying to start the tractor I noted the starter ran on after I released the key from the start position. The only way to stop the starter from turning was to removed the left battery terminal which resulted in a large spark.

The later early models and on only have 2 reverse gears that are sped up. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph. Great for plowing snow. :rock.Look at the ends of the rocker shaft, are the rubber plugs right against the cotter pins? Had a 4020 that the rubber plugs got hard and moved into the shaft tube and cut off the oil to the shaft. But it does sound like the problem is deeper. Good News....the original brake valve was rebuildable. It solved the entire problem and it stops great. No more wheel lock up. The JD 4020 is now ready to go back to work. If it's a side console tractor it can be in the PTO valve. 4-Plate on the bottom of the rockshaft housing is cracked or loose. 5-possibly an internal leak in the main pump, but not likely. 40/20vision.
