Ram rotary shifter stuck in park.
The shifter on my 2006 2500 has been sticky since I bought it, but finally the other day I went to shift it into drive and the whole shifter fell. I was able to put it into drive by using the switch underneath and got it home. I replaced the whole shifter cable, and can move it now.
feel the bottom of the steering column collar. you should feel 2 or 3 holes. The hole closest to the ignition is not a screw hole. grab a Philips screw driver or a metal rod, like ARC Welding Rod. Now press on the brake pedal. this time was able to start after wiggling the shift knob. I believed it started in gear. it felt like it rolled forward a little before the parking brake engaged by itself and would have shifted to park. door was open with seat belt off. i was trying to trick it to go in park by itself. An issue today for my wife. She could not get the shifter to move from park to reverse. Parking brake released, foot on brake… nothing. I hopped in turned key off and back on, shifter still would not move. Playing with the knob I just happened to slightly push down and the rotary shifter then moved out of park and into reverse.

Engine. 5.7. I recently had to do a Cam and Lifter swap. After completion, I used HP Tuners to shut off the MDS. Went to start the truck and the dash indicator shows it's in Reverse. The shifter is in park and so is the lever on the transmission. I disconnected the shift linkage and manually moved it and still in reverse (never changes).Engine. Hemi 5.7.
