The synagogue is the focal point of Jewish life -- the main place of communal worship as well as the scene of educational, social, and cultural activity. Four original, reconstructed synagogues, from three continents are displayed in the Jewish Art and Life Wing, with their Torah ark, the Torah reader’s platform, benches and other synagogue furnishings. The Rockefeller Archaeological Museum is an off-campus branch of the Wing, located next to the Old City of Jerusalem. This museum displays an impressive collection of important archaeological objects, which were discovered in excavations, from the days of the beginning of local archaeology until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Dining in the restaurant does not require purchase of an admissions ticket to the Museum. Museum members and Friends of the Israel Museum are entitled to a 10% discount.
