Aug 15, 2004 · The 500 is a good solid gun, not expensive to buy or own. Easy to get parts for and a lot of add ons, accessories, modifications, upgrades, etc etc available. Also I think easy to clean and maintain. Haven't used a Nova but from reading the posts - people either love them or hate them, not much inbetween. It feels thick in your hands. The 870 (or even a 500) felt way more responsive to me. If you just want an entry level beginner pump shotgun - go with the 870.
