You might also check the TCM (Transmission Control Module) It can be reset by taking it out for a while and putting it back in. It might also be burned out from the battery mix up.

I ask about the year, because, historically, it seems that on earlier year LH cars, the limp mode is more often caused by a speed sensor going out. In later years ('02-'04 IIRC), limp mode more often than not is triggered by a bad solenoid valve pack. That conclusion has come from reading 3 different LH car forums for several years.
