The transmission however takes a GL4 rated gear oil or synchromesh fluid. A gl5 rated oil has too much sulfur in it which affects the synchromesh parts. Mike.It had auto trans fluid in it. I didn't think it was unusual because the suburban runs with that. What I learned from all the helpful folks is the D 300 is a gear driven design and uses gear oil (85w90).Suburban is chain driven and uses dextron. I just use the 80w90 from walmart.
