Then I started noticing that when I was at a stop or red light, my RPM would go down and up and down and up and so on and when the RPM dropped, I would start feeling my car vibrate.

The G6 GTP has Stabilitrack. Wheels will still spin if the TC engeges and you keep on the gas.

But you need to resolve that diagnostic link connector issue first. If the scan tool is not powering up when connected & key ON, there is a power or ground issue at the connector.
