Very hard= enemies have ×10 hp and you do 1/2 damage. Survival enemies do×30 damage and you do ×25 damage. Hp is not affected. So no, very hard does not help you get ready for survival, it just makes you need to find cricket for her special gun faster. I suggest taking it up a notch periodically and testing it out. If enemies are still to spongy or if you die too easily, bring it back down and try upping again 5-10 levels from there.
